Conrad Johnson Premier 8XS Amplifiers!!
I am beyond excited to add this pair of Conrad Johnson Premier 8XS amplifiers to my personal collection. These were ultra-bonkers-crazy-high-end amplifiers sold in the mid 1990s. The Premier 8"XS" versions are designed to use 8x EL34 tubes in a parallel push-pull configuration to produce around 130 watts of smooth and warm EL34 power. These are probably some of the most powerful amplifiers which utilize this special tube. I purchased these from a long-time friend of mine after years of pestering. They were all original and needed some minor maintenance and alterations to bring them back to their full glory.
I am building a new HiFi system around these amps and I can't wait to share more information as I pick out a turntable, preamp, and speakers. More to come soon. Until then, check out the photos.
I have tons of pictures and notes about these amplifiers, please let me know if you have any questions about them.
HH Scott 250 Mono Block Restoration
My most recent tube project is a pair of HH Scott 250 Amps. These are in beautiful condition, with a few old repairs throughout their life. I'm completing a full restoration and plan to pair them with a matching Preamp soon!
Also, I'm looking for a tube cage like the one I have pictured, please contact me if you have one available.
Futterman H3AA Amplifiers and Matching Stax Headphone Amp!
Julius Futterman is an incredibly interesting man who engineered and patented the OTL (output transformer less) amplifier design. Mr. Futterman built around 100 amplifiers out of a small shop and his apartment in New York. He assembled everything by hand including the transformers. He actually sealed the transformers in a pot on his stove! There are many great articles written online about Julius, please take a little time and read about his work.
These amplifiers are honest Futterman H3AAs without any modifications. This set also includes a headphone amp built by Mr. Futterman for Stax electrostatic headphones.
These are currently not for sale, but it you have any questions about them please let me know. I can supply more pictures of the wiring if requested.
Here's a great article about Mr. Futterman.
McIntosh MC275 MK1 Joins the team
This MC275 is a real survivor with original paint and lettering on the chassis. The power supply was upgraded and the entire amp was serviced including new electrolytic capacitors throughout. It sounds fantastic.
Sansui G22000 Monster!
The Sansui G22000 is an amazing piece of audio equipment. G33000 and G22000 were 2-piece receivers which were designed and built to be the most impressive stereos sold in the late 1970s. The specs are extraordinary as is the overall size. This will be a daunting project, and one that will require weeks of work. I'm really excited to get started.
Time Capsule Sansui SM80 With Original Documents
This Sansui SM80 is a great example of Sansui 1960s build quality. I have all the original documents including and sales information from 1962. It received a restoration in 2016 and was used sparingly since then. The chassis is a work of art and is constructed with heavy materials throughout. Check out the awesome output transformers! -Bob
