Akai GX-747DBX Reel to Reel Machine
This Akai GX-747DBX is just awesome.
Condition is everything when it comes tape decks. Fortunately, this GX-747dbx was stored properly and shows no signs of mistreatment. I've seen what damp basements and hot attics can do to vintage audio gear- it's not pretty. Solenoids and mechanical linkages are the real guts behind tape decks. Even the slightest amount of moisture, dust, or sloppy lubrication can spell disaster for equipment like this.
The chassis is perfectly clean with no signs of moisture or corrosion. All the linkages and bushings have no wear and the routine maintenance was easy for me to complete. I performed general cleaning and lubricated all mechanisms prior to testing. The belts in the automatic tensioners were replaced in 2020 and are running well without any slack.
I cleaned the heads and aligned them according to the service manual specifications. I adjusted the brakes for a gentle but solid stop. All the functions work properly. Play and record in both directions, counters, automatic stop, etc. It works great. All the logic controls and timers function properly. I used standard quality tape to rip a few minutes of audio and played it back with excellent results.
The machine is all original with some blemishes. The black anodized aluminum has held up well. A few minor imperfections are documented in the photos. I took these photos in bright direct light with high contrast settings to hopefully capture everything.
The original Akai hub adapters and 7" reels are included.
The price includes careful packing and shipping to the 48 states
