Sansui G22000 Receiver. Restored and Includes Factory Boxes and Literature!
This is a rare opportunity to own a beautiful Sansui G22000 with the original boxes, shipping materials, and documentation. The G22000 & G33000 were the largest receivers Sansui created in the late 1970s. I acquired this receiver in late 2021. This stereo was cherished by the previous owners, but it was due for a major overhaul. I began the restoration in January 2022. A total of 124 components were replaced over many weeks of hard work. I began this project by cleaning all the switches, potentiometers, and jacks. I removed switches from boards as needed to be certain all the contacts were cleaned correctly. Once cleaned, I began replacing components. Electrolytic capacitors were replaced with Nichicon Fine Gold series caps. Fusible resistors were replaced throughout the preamp and amplifier. I replaced the small reed relays in the preamp with FTK-series sealed relays for better longevity. Associated circuits were adjusted accordingly to accept the bigger relays. Some transistors in the preamp power supply were replaced because the originals were heat scorched. All the terrible Sansui glue was removed, it was a painstaking process of chemical cleaning and physical scraping to remove the glue. Several devices aside from the capacitors were replaced to address glue contamination. I am happy to say this receiver is now 100% glue-free! I replaced the 4x main filter capacitors with direct replacements from Nichicon. I painted the transformers and chassis below the transformers with enamel while the amplifier was disassembled. I installed new speaker binding posts because the factory posts are tricky to use in their somewhat awkward location. I also took artistic liberty to install LEDs behind the fan shroud and installed a manual bypass to control the fan. The thermostatic fan controls still work as designed. I have enjoyed the receiver for approximately 20 hours and the performance is incredible. All inputs and controls work as they should. The phono stage is great, it’s very quiet with very little noise during soft moments. The tape loops and aux input work properly. I typically listen through my DAC into the AUX for normal listening. The tuner functions as it should, I elected to not rebuild the tuner section aside from a general cleaning. I can receive many stations and break the FM-muting function with just a small piece of wire for an antenna. The receiver is in excellent cosmetic condition. Perhaps a 9/10 because of minor blemishes to the left of the tuner glass, and various small imperfections on the back of the units. This receiver includes the 2 original boxes and shipping materials along with 2 additional shipping boxes. The paperwork is original to this Sansui and the serial numbers on the receiver match the warranty cards. Be sure to check out the video I created to demonstrate the operation of the stereo. Purchasing a rare piece of vintage audio can be very stressful and I’ll do everything I can to make it as easy as possible. Shipping / freight / delivery / pickup should be considered before purchasing. Thankfully, the factory shipping boxes will protect the equipment well. I would recommend shipping this via freight on a dedicated pallet to eliminate typical shipping hazards. As I mentioned, please contact me to discuss shipping and freight options if local pick-up or delivery is not possible. Thanks for checking out this awesome Sansui G22000.
